A female pedestrian, who was struck and killed by a car on Sunday evening in Coral Springs, has died from her injuries.
According to police, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 59 year-old woman stepped off of the curb on the north side of Sample Road, approximately 100 feet west of the intersection of Woodside Drive. She stepped in front of oncoming traffic, which had the right of way at the time, when Belizaire Simeon, 49, of Margate, who was driving westbound in a 2006 Chevrolet work van attempted to avoid her, but was unsuccessful.
The woman was transported from the scene to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead. Simeon was released from the scene with no injuries.?
According to Lieutenant Joe McHugh, the woman’s name is not being released because all attempts to locate relatives have been unsuccessful.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Rick Schaut of the Coral Springs Police Department Traffic Unit at 954-346-1755.

Unfortunately there will be more of this. Not sure how the CS Police think ignoring the pedestrian violations will ‘go away’ if they don’t up their game here … I saw them ticketing peds at Sample and Coral Ridge that were crossing against the light and not in the cross walk…probably saw them do 10 tickets in 20 minutes. Bravo on that! People just randomly step in front of your car while you are driving and expect you to slam on the brakes. Many many times I see this and the kids have the earbuds in their ears…can’t see them in the dark in the morning and at night…and they can’t hear the cars coming…scares me.
You nailed it, this is totally out of control, especially at major intersection areas due to bus stops. Mayor, get it stopped!!
Just like the speed limits and traffic lights here in CS, crosswalks are considered nothing but suggestions. Perhaps someday the CSPD will start strict enforcement of all the traffic laws.
Lord have mercy on her soul.
