As sheriff of Broward County, it is my duty to ensure that all animals in our community are protected. Whether you live in an urban or a rural community, animal abuse is a serious crime.

The same thing for our commissioner Tom Powers who was accused, removed from office, but found not guilty of violation of the state sunshine law. Like Scott, Tom Powers and gang know how to circumvent the law. Who do you trust?

Coral Springs resident Sgt. Charles Swope was recently the focus of a story about the challenges of finishing his education while being deployed. He is the son of residents Charles and Theresa Swope. Charles grew up in the city, was an Eagle Scout from Troop 246, and even graduated early from Coral Springs High School to join the Marine Corp.

This week the Federal Communications Commission will consider a proposal to ease restrictions on cellular phone use during flights. This comes after The Federal Aviation Administration lifted its ban of electronic devices such as iPads and Kindles below 10,000 feet, saying they don’t interfere with cockpit instruments.

The students of Riverside Elementary’s Multiage K/1 class in Coral Springs celebrated Freedom Week in quite an artistic way. Freedom Week is part of our Common Core Curriculum which is the last full week in September. The 40 students, ages 5 & 6, created a beautiful American flag by using their little hands and feet all while learning about our flag.
