In what has been their best start in school history, the Coral Glades High School boys basketball team earned their tenth win of the season following their 64-52 win over West Broward High School.

The Jaguars have currently won four of their past five games and are a perfect 6-0 in league play. Led by Head Coach Nicholas Carr, the Jaguars are highlighted by a three-headed monster in A.J. Ruiz, Dominic Brooks, and Marcus Lewis.

With as many as  26 points earlier this season, Ruiz ran the offense, with 17 points against West Broward.  Dominic Brooks and Lewis each had 12 points, and Georden Rogers added 14 as well.

“The boys are a solid group,” Carr said. “They need to buy in on defense first. In order for us to score points, we got to get turnovers and buckets in transition.”

While the big-three typically scores many of the points, Shane Geddes is one of the best three-point shooters on the team along with Devin Sparks. Karim Nelson is the best rebounder on the team, and Nicolas Bontemps has done a great job of coming off the bench, despite being a starter for most of his varsity career. Carr hoped it could give them a little extra scoring off the bench.

One player who has benefited the most from Bontemps coming off the bench is Diondre Dawkins. He has started many games as the season goes bringing a lot of energy onto the court every night. While he does not get much playing time, Tavian M. Carr is the son of Coach Carr, and occasionally gets some time late in games.

Coach Carr wishes they could have played better against some of the more challenging high schools. While they have an excellent record, most of the losses came against teams he expected them to beat.

Those wins include Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Pompano Beach, and Plantation High School.  Their win against J.P. Taravella came by forfeit. They beat Cypress Bay 72-64, as each team has ten wins this season

Up next, the Jaguars will travel to Coral Springs Charter School to play the Panthers on Friday, January 24, at 7:30 p.m. Following that, they will play four of their last five games at home, including a rivalry game against Coral Springs High School on February 3.
