Felicia Gomez and Gage Smith {BSO}
By Kevin Deutsch
Two Coral Springs residents were arrested last week after witnesses and police saw people burglarizing cars in a local condominium community, court records show.
Felicia Gomez, 19, and Gage Smith, 21, both living at the 9200 block of NW 16 St, targeted cars at the Brittany Court Condominium, 2456 NW 89th Dr., on April 27, according to court papers filed by Coral Springs Police.
Authorities set up a perimeter around the crime scene after a witness called 911.
When officers arrived, they spotted Smith trying to break into another car, a silver Toyota Camry. That vehicle’s owner later declined to press charges, police said, and investigators could not determine whether it was Gomez or Smith who broke into the Kia, records show.
As a result, neither was charged with that crime, police said.
When officers approached Gomez and Smith, they split up and fled, obstructing the police investigation.
The accused burglars, who have a child together, were located and arrested shortly later, police said.
Gomez admitted breaking into a red Toyota and stealing a portable speaker worth $70, records show.
She is charged with burglarizing a vehicle, resisting an officer, and petit theft. She was booked into jail by police and is currently free on her own recognizance, records show.
Smith is charged with loitering or prowling, resisting an officer, and two counts of violating his probation.
He was being held without bond Tuesday at BSO’s Joseph V. Conte Facility.
