Opinion: Coral Springs Is and Has Always Been ‘Our Town’

This past weekend, residents from across our great city converged in celebration of the 40th annual Our Town America festival – a celebration that raises critical funds in support of community non-profit organizations across Southern Florida.

This storied festival is a testament not only to the generosity of our community, but the mores that make Coral Springs an incredible place to live and raise a family.

My siblings and I have called Coral Springs home for nearly three decades. Much like our fellow neighbors, we’ve been shaped by the vibrancy of our community and the cultural hallmarks that make residing here so unique.

I hold vivid memories of Friday nights at Magnolia Cinema, afternoons in Mullins Park, weekends at Coral Square and evenings at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. I recall annual traditions with my family like Coral Springs’ storied holiday parade, and value deeply opportunities that would come to spark my deep passion for public service like volunteering on our city’s multicultural committee during my days as a student at Coral Springs Charter School.

This time of year, as our community comes together at events like Our Town America, Festival of the Arts (March 16th & 17th), GardenFest Coral Springs (March 16th & 17th) and WorldFest (March 31st). Let us remember that these celebrations are also opportunities for us to connect with what has always made Coral Springs special – its people.

I made the decision to run for mayor of our great city because there is no community I believe in more. Our challenges are real – from public safety to long term economic and environmental sustainability. Without sound and bold leadership, we run the risk of falling behind and missing out on opportunities to ensure a vibrant quality of life is maintained well into the future.

Over the last several months, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many of you; of discussing your hopes for the future and the Coral Springs you’d like to live in. I’ve come to your homes, met with you at events, shaken your hands and listened to your concerns.

And what I’ve heard is simple. You want a community that is as beautiful as it is bustling. You want a city that is accessible and accommodating for all who reside here. You want a community that is forward thinking and future-oriented. But most of all, you want a community that is safe, welcoming and responsive to your needs.

I want those same things. And I want to be your voice in City Hall.

When I become mayor, we will move our city forward together with an inclusive vision that rests on a singular idea: that the future is ours for the taking.
