An “irate” Coral Springs teenager allegedly pulled a kitchen knife on her boyfriend and threatened to kill him after she caught him talking with his ex-girlfriend on Snapchat, court records show.
Esther Romero, 19, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the Feb. 7 incident, which police uncovered when a neighbor in Romero’s Northwest 35th Street apartment building called police, according to an arrest affidavit.
When Coral Springs Police arrived, Romero told them her fight with her boyfriend was “none of our business,” officers wrote.
Romero’s boyfriend denied any weapons were displayed and told police “all couples argue,” records show. But the couple’s neighbor, who had phoned the police, said she had seen Romero outside her apartment arguing with her boyfriend with a kitchen knife in hand.
She was “pointing” the knife at the man and telling him to “get back inside the apartment, or she will kill him,” the witness told police.
Romero allegedly held the knife to the man’s back as she made the threat, said the witness, who wished to remain anonymous.
After Romero was handcuffed, the alleged victim in the case told officers, “he got caught talking to his ex-girlfriend on Snapchat and [Romero] got irate,” according to the affidavit.
He said Romero had threatened to kill him if he did not go back inside the apartment but claimed she did not have the knife in her hand at the time.
Romero was booked into the Broward Main Jail and later released on a $500 bond, records show.
