Tropical Financial Credit Union has awarded three scholarships totaling $10,000 to deserving students in the South Florida area.
Established over a decade ago, this annual scholarship program aims to support local students in pursuing higher education.
Among this year’s recipients is Sarah Salazar, a homeschooled student from Coral Springs, who has been granted the grand prize scholarship of $5,000.
With an impressive 4.1 GPA and significant volunteer hours dedicated to community service, Sarah plans to major in Studio Arts and Business Administration.
She is currently deciding between Palm Beach Atlantic University and Florida Atlantic University to further her studies.
Another recipient, Quinn Feerick-Hillenbrand, also from Coral Springs, has been awarded one of the two $2,500 scholarships. After graduating from Plantation High School, Quinn will attend Saint Louis University in Missouri to pursue a degree in aviation.
He has already gained invaluable experience through the Aerospace Technologies and Design program, allowing him to collaborate with NASA to design, build, and launch experimental rockets.
Notably, Quinn’s sister, Shannon, received the $5,000 scholarship last year and is completing her first year at Brown University. She has also secured a summer internship at the University of Miami Law School.
Nathan Adler, from Miami, is the winner of Tropical Financial Credit Union’s $2,500 non-traditional scholarship. Currently attending Covenant Theological Seminary, Nathan is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree while balancing a full-time job and family responsibilities.
Additionally, he serves as a clerk and ruling elder at Granada Presbyterian Church in Coral Gables.
Rick Shaw, the President/CEO of Tropical Financial Credit Union, expressed the team’s enthusiasm for awarding these scholarships each year, emphasizing the opportunity to learn about the impactful journeys of the students.
He eagerly anticipates witnessing the remarkable achievements these deserving members will accomplish by pursuing their educational goals.

Applicants for the scholarships were required to submit essays outlining their personal and educational objectives, as well as detailing how Tropical Financial has aided or could assist them in attaining their financial aspirations.
The selection process also considered community involvement, charitable work, and participation in extracurricular activities.
Tropical Financial Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial institution, is headquartered in Miramar and located in Coral Springs at 8947 W Atlantic Blvd.
