October is here, which means temperatures outside are starting to cool down, and activities outside at Broward Parks are starting to heat up. Offerings include the Nature Tots Program, after-school programs at many parks throughout Broward County, sports for all ages, and nature hikes. In addition, this month the action is heating up on the ice at Amerant Bank Arena. Our hometown Florida Panthers return, and it is the beginning of their quest for another championship. Whether it’s just relaxing at a park or cheering on our hometown team, October is a great month to be active and enjoy all Broward County has to offer.
The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is a showcase not only of fabulous boats, but our local marine industries. With an economic impact of $1.79 billion and over 100,000 attendees, South Florida will be in the spotlight this fall. The boat show is not only the largest in-water boat show in Florida, but the world. South Florida loves being on the water, and a boat is the best way to do it. Come check out all the great events and boats from October 28th- November 1st.
This month offers many cultural events throughout Broward County. The kickoff event, Arts Launch Broward, will be hosted at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. It will feature live music and dance performances, artist showcases, community networks, and information on exhibits, concerts, and festivals. This event will be held in conjunction with the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Sunday Jazz Brunch. Come out and enjoy a great Sunday on October 4th. For more information visit Broward.org/arts.
It’s time to make a plan to vote! The last day to register to vote for the 2026 general election is October 5 in Florida. If you would like to request an absentee ballot you must do so by October 22. Early voting will take place from October 19 - November 1st and Election Day is November 3rd, 2026. Residents are able to observe the entire election process as it plays out throughout the month and on election day at the state-of-the-art Supervisor of Elections building and watch the canvassing board at all meetings. It is imperative that you participate in the democratic process, and make your voice heard.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October. 12.9% of women will develop breast cancer during their lives, and it also can affect men. Everyone knows someone in their life that has been affected. Early detection could save your life, and it is crucial to seek treatment as soon as possible. Discuss the best preventative care with your physician or health care provider, and please help a local organization that supports those going through this diagnosis.
Finally, whether you are enjoying a spooky (but not scary) Halloween, or the traditions of Octoberfest, please do so responsibly. Do not drink and drive, and enjoy!
