By Commissioner Michael Udine
November is here and we have so much to be thankful for. After a hectic hurricane threat filled October, we are now getting ready for the end of the year.
Broward County was fully ready to support our residents as we experienced impacts from Milton and Helene. We also assisted other county governments and fellow Florida residents evacuating from the storm zone. Working together to help our fellow Floridians and keep Broward County safe throughout a storm is always our top priority. Regardless of what the final month of Hurricane Season holds, Broward stands ready and vigilant no matter what the threat is.
Looking for a boat or just want to spend a great day with the family as you daydream about a yacht? The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show began on October 30 and goes through November 3 at the Broward County Convention Center. It is a showcase that is known all over the world but takes place right in our backyard! The boat show provides a $1.79 billion impact and has well over 100,000 plus attendees. Make sure to be there and experience this annual event that is a showcase for the marine industry!
Have you voted yet? Election Day is November 5 and democracy counts on you! You have three options to vote. By mail, Early Voting, and on Election Day. If you would like to observe the counting process, please visit the Supervisor of Elections to see the Canvassing Board in action. The building is set up so the public can visit and watch the count in progress. We are committed to using the latest technology to provide a transparent election process that protects the integrity of democracy. Again, don’t forget to vote! We are counting on you to make your voice heard. For more information visit browardvotes.gov.
Veterans Day is November 11. I hope you will take some time to honor those who served and continue to serve our communities. Also get involved with many of the veteran related groups throughout our community. If you have a business, participate in the Paychecks for Patriots Job Fair in Tamarac hosted by Career Source Broward on November 14th. Veterans are the backbone of our community, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for their service.
Finally, whether you are flying out of FLL for turkey dinner, hitting the road to Grandma’s house or burning a few calories with me at the 44th Annual Tamarac Turkey Trot, I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving. Please donate to one of the many organizations that make Thanksgiving possible for those less fortunate. Our community has many things to be thankful for and I hope you make memories with those you love.
