On opening night, Coral Glades softball picked up their first win of the season after defeating Cardinal Gibbons High School 15-0 on Tuesday.Â
Head Coach Richard Waldorf is excited to welcome some new players despite losing a pair of all County players after going 13-8.
“I was pretty happy with their execution tonight,” said Coach Waldorf. “We have some exciting newcomers. I think in the aggregate, we are an improved team. We have a good mix of exceptional speed and power. We should put up some runs this year.”
They were led by Carmela Smith, who had three hits and drove in three RBIs, scoring twice. Cory Paz and Hannah Grandez drove in a pair, while Ciara Gendron, Kiana Marte, and Casie Kazanjian had one.Â
Grandez pitched a shutout on the mound, allowing only two hits and five strikeouts.Â
Next, the Jaguars will play Pembroke Pines Charter on Thursday, February 24, at 6:30 p.m. The Jaguars fell in their season’s opening game to Doral Academy Preparatory School and will be playing Coral Glades for the first time in five years.Â
