Coral Springs author Caren Opperman Sollod is helping young children understand sadness, fear and kindness through her “It’s Okay to Be” book series.
A former elementary school teacher and advocate for foster and at-risk youth, Sollod wrote the three-book series for children younger than 7. The stories validate their feelings and offer practical strategies for handling stressful situations and understanding others.
“The Day that Oliver Went Away,” inspired by Sollod’s grief after losing a beloved pet, explores sadness and loss. “Boo Gets Scared Too” follows a bear who helps children recognize fear and learn ways to cope.
Her latest title, “It’s Nice to be Nice,” uses relatable characters and everyday experiences to show children what kindness looks like and how to practice it.
“It’s my sincere desire to make a difference and empower children through reading,” said Sollod, founder of Solid Success Publications. “As a former teacher that’s still active in classrooms, I’ve seen firsthand how a compelling story can teach life lessons kids need now more than ever.”
Sollod regularly reads in schools. For information about the series, book purchases or scheduling an author appearance, visit solidsuccesspublications.com.
