Let the campaign kickoff parties begin!
The candidates running for mayor or city commission in Coral Springs are all jockeying up for position, and the first order of business is the obligatory kickoff party. The kickoff party tells everyone that they are serious about running, and hopefully, people will chip in a few bucks for their campaign.
Commissioner Tom Powers has his Mayoral kickoff party planned coincidentally on his birthday January 27, at Blue Moon Fish Company. Powers has served in seat 5 on the city commission since 2008. He is a retired Arizona State Police Officer who retired to Florida after his wife accepted a position here in 2001. The party will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Oh yes, and don’t be a cheapskate. The minimum suggested contribution is $250. ElectTomPowers
Commissioner Dan Daley is up for reelection for city commission seat 2 that he has held since being elected in 2012. Daley runs an online business that distributes Golden Gro Horse Supplements as well as attends Law School at Nova University. Daley has been a resident of Coral Springs for 13 years and is a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. His kickoff party will be held on February 20, at Tavolino Della Nonna restaurant from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and everyone is invited he says. ElectDanDaley
Running for the city commission seat 4 is Howard Melamed. Melamed is a civil engineer and CEO of CellAntenna Corporation, a multinational, multimillion dollar company which is located in Coral Springs and has been a resident of the city for 22 years. Melamed’s party will be held on January 30, at the Smart Publishing Art Gallery from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm where it will include special guest Congressman Ted Deutch. HowardMelamed
Also running but who don’t have parties organized:
Running for commission seat 4 is Brian Walsh. Walsh is owner of Wings Plus of Coral Springs which has attracted candidates like Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. He’s taking a break from the race as his wife had knee surgery, and will need help with her recovery, however, he’s says he’s in the race to help small business owners like himself. Walsh has been a resident for 25 years. BrianWalsh
Joy Carter is running for commission seat 5 and had her kickoff back in November at the Coral Springs Country Club. Carter is a Realtor at Keller Williams Partners Realty and has lived here for 29 years. She says she will have more events coming up in the future, however, her focus right now has been on the Art Festival which she says had a serious deficit in sponsor dollars last month and was in jeopardy of this being the last year. Thanks to a lot of dedicated volunteers that made it happen, the festival will go on. ElectJoyCarter
Laurette Homan has also filed to run for commission seat 5 and had her kickoff party last September at Runyon’s Restaurant where Mayor Boccard and Commissioners Daley and Vignola spoke on her behalf. Homan has been the owner of Hilton Insurance Services in Coral Springs for 17 years . She was born in Coral Springs and both her and her husband graduated from Coral Springs High School. She said she is planning another party in March and will keep us posted. Hometown Homan
