The Coral Springs Charter High School Marching Panthers band is continuing to enjoy success.
During the Music Performance Assessment at Cypress Bay High School on October 24, the band earned all straight superior ratings, the highest category possible.
The band earned superior ratings in percussion, color guard, general effect, visual, and music. This is the third consecutive year the Charter band has earned straight superior ratings. “The students have been working hard, and we have targeted each of those categories since band camp in the summer. The kids are building from the previous year, and they know the expectations and stick to them,” said band director David Cardona.
On October 17, the Charter band earned first place in the Class 1A category at the Palmetto Ridge Marching Band Invitational in Naples. The band won first place in music and general effects. At the Falcon Sound Invitational at Flanagan High School on October 3, the band earned first place in Class 2A and won the First Half Competition, which included bands from Classes 1A and 2A, according to Cardona.
“We have students who are in our band program from the sixth grade to the 12th grade, and they gain a lot of valuable experience and learn to work together. The middle school students learn from the high school members, and I can start building relationships with them earlier. We have a strong band program at Charter,” said Cardona.
Leah Delgado, the drum major and a French horn player, enjoys being in the band. “I feel good about our accomplishments, and I love to practice and perform,” she said.
Charter’s next competition will be a Bands of America event in Clearwater on October 31. “This will be a huge competition and will be facing some of the strongest band programs in Florida. We are doing this so the kids can compete at a higher level and gain experience,” said Cardona.
