A Coral Springs food pantry is calling on the community for help as it faces a growing challenge: fewer donations and more families in need.
Since 2001, the pantry at Coral Springs Christian Church has served as a vital resource for residents experiencing food insecurity, providing essential groceries to individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. In recent months, organizers say donations from suppliers have steadily declined due to reduced funding, while the number of people seeking assistance continues to increase.
To keep up with demand, the pantry is working to raise awareness and encourage both monetary and in-kind donations. Those who wish to contribute financially are asked to designate their gift to “Helping Hands,” a program that supports the pantry’s efforts.
The organization is also reaching out to residents who may need assistance, reminding them that help is available.
Items currently in high demand include canned proteins such as tuna, chicken, Spam, Vienna sausages, chili, and beef stew, as well as pantry staples like peanut butter and jelly. Other needed items include pasta, rice, cereal, macaroni and cheese, oatmeal, spaghetti sauce, canned pasta, and canned fruits and vegetables.
Food distribution takes place weekly at the Royal Palm Christian Church, located at 9600 Royal Palm Blvd. in Coral Springs. Hours are Thursdays from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and clients are asked to bring a valid ID.
Donation hours are Monday through Friday, from 10:30 to 5:00, at the Church office. They can also pick up donations.
