In only their fourth game back since going into a two-week quarantine after a COVID-19 scare, the Coral Springs girls soccer team defeated Monarch High School 3-1 in their playoff game Monday night.
This was also their second win since Senior Night when they honored Samantha Kinggard, Isabel Majdoch, Francesca Medrano, Sidney Brunton, and Jasmine Bounassi.
“I’m very proud and impressed with the girls that they had the perseverance to be out there and perform at this level after what they have been through,” said Head Coach Mike Guardino.
Kinggard, who has been one of the top offensive players this season, stepped up against Monarch and played defense after Coral Springs was missing one of their top defenders. Her coach thought she played great and stepped up as a captain on the team.
Jazmyn Frederick played in net and allowed one goal. Kaylee Salvatierra, Andrea Orujela, and Brunton all scored goals.
Up next, Coral Springs plays Marjory Stoneman Douglas, with the winner advancing to the District Finals. The game takes place at Coral Springs High School on Thursday, February 4, at 7 p.m.
