{City of Coral Springs}
By Sharon Aron Baron
Out of 129 applicant cities, Coral Springs stood out, securing its place among the select 24 cities in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean to participate in the Cities Forward program, running until 2025.
This initiative birthed at the Cities Summit of the Americas, is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of State, ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, Resilient Cities Catalyst, and the Institute of the Americas. Its primary goal is fostering city partnerships to amplify global perspectives on urban sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity.
Expressing its commitment to these principles, Coral Springs has been paired with Freeport, Bahamas. Both cities will collaboratively work on projects that enhance their sustainability endeavors.
Dr. Andrea Lemaitre, Coral Springs Sustainability Manager, voiced her excitement, stating, “Our selection is proof of our innovative approach to sustainability, both on local and global scales. This partnership with esteemed organizations and Freeport representatives will fortify Coral Springs’ sustainability strategies and further our commitment to being a leading sustainable organization.”
Coral Springs’ involvement aligns perfectly with its strategic aspirations and its Sustainability Action Plan launched in 2022. This action plan emphasizes a comprehensive approach to sustainability, with a keen focus on global perspectives.
