The Coral Springs Museum of Art will celebrate the opening of its new downtown gallery Friday, Oct. 9, with music, drinks, and an exhibition featuring 57 original prints by Pablo Picasso.
The grand opening begins at 5:30 p.m. at 3380 N. University Drive. Guests can explore the new space, enjoy music in the gallery and purchase limited-edition merchandise.
Admission is $10 per person and free for museum members. Tickets will be available in one-hour time slots, with gallery capacity limited to 140 guests. Each ticket includes one complimentary drink. Tickets can be purchased online.
Regular museum admission will be free beginning Oct. 10.
The inaugural exhibition, “Picasso: A Graphic Journey,” features works created between 1923 and 1972, including etchings, lithographs, linocuts and a rare, canceled copper printing plate. It will remain on view through Dec. 5.
The Broward County Cultural Division supports the exhibition, with funding from the Broward County Commission.
“Cages and Collage,” an exhibition by local artist Janet Gold, will also be on display through Dec. 31.
The new gallery includes more than 5,000 square feet of exhibition space, a street-facing design and flexible gallery walls for rotating exhibitions. The space will also feature a retail store, coffee station and Creative Studio.
“It’s an incredible honor to welcome this collection of Picasso’s work as we open the doors to a new chapter for the Coral Springs Museum of Art,” said Commissioner Joshua Simmons, the museum’s board chair.
“This new gallery represents years of vision and investment in arts and culture, and exhibitions like this will give residents and visitors from around the world even more reason to experience Downtown Coral Springs.”
The relocation marks a milestone for the museum, which has served the community for nearly 30 years. In 2019, the Coral Springs City Commission formally assumed a governance role as the museum’s board, strengthening its connection with the city and helping expand access, including free admission.
The move also coincides with the launch of a redesigned museum website focused on the visitor experience.
While the exhibition gallery has relocated downtown, art classes and other creative programs will continue at the CSMoA Creative Studios on the second floor of the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive.
