{Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department}
Coral Springs has secured more than $3 million in federal grants to hire 12 firefighters, expand fire safety education and support firefighter health and wellness, according to the city.
The largest award, $2,670,793 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program, will fund the new positions in the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department.
The additional firefighters will bolster staffing on the department’s busiest units and improve emergency response.
“These grants are a significant investment in the safety of both our firefighters and the communities we serve,” Fire Chief John Whalen said in a statement.
The city also received $275,238 through FEMA’s Fire Prevention and Safety program to purchase a public education fire safety and emergency training trailer. The trailer will provide hands-on instruction for children and families. According to the city, Coral Springs was one of six Florida cities selected for funding through the program.
Another $90,909 from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program will support training and wellness initiatives aimed at improving physical readiness, reducing occupational injuries and protecting firefighters’ long-term health.
City Manager Catherine Givens credited staff members for securing the awards.
“Their efforts allow us to make important investments in public safety while reducing the financial impact on local taxpayers,” Givens said.
The city reported securing $8,045,534 in total grant funding during fiscal year 2026 for public safety, infrastructure, emergency preparedness and other community priorities.
