Coral Springs Seeks Public Input on Major Sportsplex Expansion

Coral Springs residents and sports stakeholders can weigh in on plans for a major expansion of the city’s Sportsplex.
The city will hold a Sportsplex Optimization Community Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m. at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex, 12441 Royal Palm Blvd.
The open-house-style meeting will allow members of the public to learn more about the project, review proposed amenities and the project’s scope, ask questions, and provide feedback to help guide the planning process.
As Coral Springs Talk previously reported, the city is considering an extensive redevelopment of the Sportsplex that could cost up to $100 million.
Plans call for redeveloping the Tom Messenheimer Field site into an indoor athletic and event center, along with major improvements to the Aquatic Complex and Tennis Center.
The proposed indoor facility would include 12 courts: eight basketball courts and four additional courts with telescopic bleachers with seating for up to 4,000 spectators. The courts could also be converted into 36 pickleball courts or 24 volleyball courts.
Other proposed amenities include meeting and event space, a ballroom, fitness and exercise rooms, locker rooms, concessions, café seating, a catering kitchen, team rooms and a family entertainment center.
The aquatics portion of the project could include an Olympic-size 50-meter competition pool, a 10-lane competition pool and a diving well. Plans also contemplate indoor seating for about 2,500 spectators, classrooms, locker rooms and concessions.
Proposed outdoor improvements include a splash pad, fitness area, children’s playground, walking trails, green space, gathering areas and public art. Plans also call for approximately 900 parking spaces near the indoor athletic facility and about 415 additional spaces serving the aquatics area.
The project is expected to be completed in phases. The city previously considered a $1.17 million contract with PBK Architects Florida Inc. for conceptual and schematic design through the 30% design stage.
Community input will help inform the project’s ongoing design and planning.
