Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department Inspires Future Female Firefighters in First-Ever Event

The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department hosted its inaugural Ignite the Flame event, a one-day camp designed to introduce girls to the fire profession, on October 14.
The event, held at the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety for 35 6th through 8th grade girls, helped them gain hands-on experience in firefighting and other related activities.
According to the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department, the campers participated in a range of physical challenges specifically designed to simulate real-life firefighting scenarios. These included learning how to handle and control a fire hose, operate a nozzle to control water flow, perform search-and-rescue exercises, and learn climbing and rappelling techniques.
They also learned about essential firefighting skills, such as ventilation and forcible entry, and practiced them under the guidance of experienced professionals.
The campers also underwent physical fitness training, an essential component of the firefighting profession, to help them build strength and endurance, which is critical for physically demanding firefighting tasks.
Ignite the Flame focuses on nurturing the self-confidence of the young girls who attend the camp.
Female fire instructors from across Florida, including Coral Springs and Parkland, Port St. Lucie, Miami, and others, conducted the camp.
