The magical start to the season continues for the J.P. Taravella baseball team after being crowned Champions of the High School Baseball Network Elite First Pitch Tournament.
Competing against several reigning state champions and several nationally ranked programs, the Trojans went 3-0. They capped their week off with a win against Doral Academy on Friday at Broward College.
“If going to a Regional Final last year didn’t put us on the map, winning this tournament and beating the teams we did has too,” said Head Coach Joe Giummule. “I’m proud of my team and excited for the rest of season.”
E.J. Burns, Brandon Metivier and Derek Rodriguez allowed only one run on two hits, string out 13. Offensively, Edgar Marquez led the way with a bases clearing double in the fourth.
Next, the Trojans will Coral Springs Charter on Tuesday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. The Panthers are currently 2-0 with wins over Calvary Christian and Somerset Academy.
