The Best Buddies Club at J.P. Taravella High School recently participated in the Broward County Best Buddies Friendship Walk at Nova Southeastern University on Sunday, April 19, 2026, bringing together students, families, and community members in support of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The Taravella chapter showed strong support for the cause, with 56 participants registered for the walk. The group also raised $3,440 to benefit Best Buddies programs.
At the school, the Best Buddies Club fosters one-to-one friendships between students with and without IDD. The club holds monthly meetings, activities, and fundraisers throughout the year to support its efforts.
“I‘m very excited by the growth in our club and the money we raised this year,” said instructor Candy Allen, adding, “Best Buddies provides an amazing opportunity for Buddies and Peer Buddies to spread inclusion and awareness in our school.”
Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization, works to end the social, physical, and economic isolation of people with IDD through initiatives focused on friendship, integrated employment, leadership development, inclusive living, and family support. The organization serves individuals with autism, Down syndrome, and other disabilities worldwide.
