Coral Springs Commissioner Joy Carter has been awarded the 2024 Home Rule Hero Award by the Florida League of Cities (FLC) in recognition of her significant advocacy efforts during the recent legislative session.
According to a release from the city of Coral Springs, the award highlights Commissioner Carter’s commitment to empowering municipalities to govern locally without excessive state oversight. She believes this principle is essential for the prosperity of Coral Springs residents and businesses.
During her final year in office, Commissioner Carter, who will not seek reelection due to term limits, expressed her gratitude for the honor and reflected on the importance of advocating for local control.
“What an honor it is to receive this recognition during my last year in office,” she stated, emphasizing the long-term benefits of her advocacy work on the community.
Casey Cook, FLC Chief of Legislative Affairs, praised Carter’s unwavering dedication to promoting local decision-making and noted her significant impact on the legislative session.
