Local Students Named Semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program

By: Sharon Aron Baron

Out of the 53 Broward County Public School students who were named semifinalists in the prestigious 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program, five were from Parkland and Coral Springs high schools.

The students are among 16,000 semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring students in each state taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
