Lorna Brown-Burton was recognized during the September 15 commission meeting for her years of volunteer work with the Girl Scouts and for receiving the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida 2026 Lifetime Service Award.
Mayor Scott Brook praised Brown-Burton for her years of community work and efforts to help young people. She was presented with a plaque.
As a child in Jamaica, she was a member of the Girl Guides, which is similar to the Girl Scouts. Brown-Burton has served on the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Board of Directors.
A lawyer, she also serves on the Florida Bar Board of Governors, representing the 17th Judicial Circuit.
Although Brown-Burton is less active in the Girl Scouts, she does attend major awards events such as the Gold Award and looks for ways to serve others.
“I love the Girl Scouts, and I want to help empower young women to be successful,” she said.
