A wanted man has been arrested in connection with a violent carjacking involving a Lyft driver on New Year’s Day.
According to Coral Springs Police Department records, Keondre Glasper, 22, of Pompano Beach, was taken into custody on January 7 after a Broward County judge issued a warrant charging him with carjacking.
Records show the incident occurred on January 1 at the Club Mira Lago apartment complex near 890 Coral Ridge Drive. Coral Springs Police say the victim was working as a Lyft driver and had accepted a fare from Tamarac.
Investigators say the passenger became upset upon arrival in Coral Springs, claiming the destination was incorrect. When the driver explained that trip changes had to be made through the Lyft app, the situation escalated into a violent assault and carjacking.
According to the arrest affidavit, the passenger allegedly slapped the driver and placed him in a headlock. The driver eventually unbuckled his seatbelt and exited the vehicle.
Police say the suspect then climbed from the back seat into the driver’s seat and sped away. The victim reportedly grabbed onto the suspect’s jacket and was dragged a short distance before letting go as the vehicle sped off. The vehicle was eventually reported as stolen. Records do not indicate how, or if, it was later recovered.
Detectives identified Glasper through Lyft account records, witness statements, phone records, text messages, and social media information. Police say the ride was ordered by a woman who personally knew Glasper and confirmed he was the only person to enter the vehicle.
Glasper was arrested on January 7 at his Pompano Beach home. He was transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is held without bond.
