After a standoff with law enforcement, a man was arrested and charged with battery and neglect of a child following a violent tirade that included the assault of a woman, tossing of an infant to the ground, and the abuse of a pet.
On May 3, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a victim's emergency domestic violence call claiming that her boyfriend had assaulted her, an infant, and her pets.
According to the arrest report, upon arriving at the scene, officers spoke to a victim holding a one-month-old baby who had allegedly been attacked by the woman's boyfriend and the baby's father, later identified as Carlito Junior Milfort, 24.
The victim told officers the fight with Milfort began after she discovered text messages on his phone from multiple women. When she confronted him, he became enraged and physically assaulted her by punching, slapping, and dragging her by the hair.
Records show the woman managed to take her baby out of the bedroom where the fight began, but the altercation spilled into the living room where Milfort continued to destroy items, raise his voice, and make death threats.
According to the victim, Milfort then turned towards the baby’s bassinet, with the baby inside, and threw it to the ground. The victim told officers she was able to catch the bassinet and prevent the baby from falling out and striking its head just before it hit the tile floor.
According to the arrest report, Milfort also threatened to kill the woman's pets and threw a cage with a hamster in it, striking the victim, who sustained a scratch to her left eye, two abrasions on her upper back, and bruising on her right and left arm.
The report shows that when officers attempted to take Milfort into custody, he barricaded himself in the home and refused to come out.
After a 25-minute standoff, Milfort surrendered and was taken into police custody.
Milfort was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he was released after posting a $6,000 bond.
