Coral Springs Police hit the bullseye on giving this holiday season, hosting their annual Shop with a Cop event on Dec. 3 and 5 at two local Target stores.
Forty-five children got the chance to shop alongside 60 officers for gifts and essentials after the Coral Springs Police Department partnered with Target to host its annual Heroes & Helpers event. The event also provided 45 children with an opportunity to shop for holiday gifts alongside local officers.
According to Ryan Himmel, Public Safety Marketing Manager for the City of Coral Springs, 60 officers assisted children in selecting items on their wish lists. The program was funded in part by a $3,000 Heroes & Helpers grant from Target, with total spending exceeding $6,000.
School Resource Officers selected the children for the event, ensuring deserving students from elementary through high school had the chance to participate.
Himmel said popular items among younger children included Legos, dolls, Nerf guns, and sporting equipment, while older participants gravitated toward practical items like Stanley tumblers, clothing, and household necessities such as laundry detergent and food.
Established by Target in 2009, Heroes & Helpers fosters partnerships between law enforcement and the community, aiming to create positive experiences and strengthen local connections.
