A restaurant employee faces aggravated assault with deadly weapon charges after threatening a customer with a kitchen knife.
On June 15, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to an aggravated assault at Moon Thai & Japanese Restaurant, located at 9637 Westview Drive.
According to the incident report, an intoxicated suspect, later identified as an employee of the establishment named Hung Nguyen, 41, of Boca Raton, became belligerent during his shift.
Upon arrival, CSPD officers made contact with Nguyen, who was visibly intoxicated and uncooperative. According to witness statements, Nguyen’s behavior escalated during his shift, resulting in a confrontation with a victim seated at the sushi counter.
CSPD records show Nguyen allegedly picked up a bowl and motioned as if he was going to strike the victim with it before grabbing a long silver knife, approximately six to seven inches in length with a black handle, and threatening the victim while cursing.
Fearing for his safety, the victim told officers he immediately left the sushi counter and approached the restaurant’s manager at the hostess stand, who then called CSPD for assistance.
The CSPD incident report indicates surveillance footage of the confrontation was captured and will be used as evidence in the case.
CSPD officers took Nguyen into custody, and he was subsequently transported for medical clearance due to his high level of intoxication. Upon clearance, he was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
