A dispute over spoiled chicken escalated into multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, and driving with a suspended license against a Coral Springs man.
On May 6, the Coral Springs Police Department was called to the 4500 block of Riverside Drive following a report of a vehicle attempting to run over several individuals.
According to the police report, the incident began when a man, later identified as Kevin Thompson, 20, was picked up from a Wing Stop restaurant in Tamarac by his girlfriend and mother.
During the drive, a confrontation ensued over what Thompson believed was spoiled chicken, and the victims were angry that they were already eating it in the vehicle.
“I want chicken; the chicken I gave you is stank,” a victim told CSPD. Thompson reportedly expressed his desire to replace the spoiled meal with fresh chicken from another Wing Stop location in Coral Springs.
The situation rapidly deteriorated when Thompson, angry over the meal, abruptly stopped the vehicle, exited, and verbally challenged his mother to a fight.
The confrontation turned physical when Thompson punched his mother in the face. Both Thompson’s girlfriend and his mother fled the scene, but Thompson then allegedly attempted to run them over, forcing them to take refuge in a nearby Publix parking lot.
Undeterred, eyewitnesses stated that Thompson drove his vehicle over the curb in a dangerous attempt to strike the victims.
Officers arrived shortly after that and apprehended Thompson.
Based on the accounts from the victims and observed damage to Thompson’s vehicle, police charged him with multiple felonies.
Thompson was transported to the Broward County Main Jail. His bond was set at $16,000.
