Vincent Chopin {BSO}
By Ryan Yousefi
A violent altercation turned bizarre when a man was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including biting off a police officer’s hat during an arrest.
The incident occurred on February 10 when the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call from the parking lot at the 700 block of North University Drive outside the Elegant Beauty Supply store.
According to the police report, Vincent Chopin, 36, became aggressive and refused to identify himself when officers approached him and the female victim involved in the altercation. Despite several attempts to detain him, Chopin resisted arrest and even picked up an officer’s body camera to film the incident himself.
The situation escalated when officers attempted to place Chopin in handcuffs. He pushed and pulled away from them before finally being subdued and placed inside a marked police vehicle. But the violence didn’t stop there — Chopin continued to kick the windows and panels, causing around $500 in damage, according to the police report.
Chopin then attacked an officer when the vehicle’s door was opened to calm him down. Allegedly biting the officer’s hat with such force that he felt Chopin’s teeth breach into the hat on his head, according to police.
The victim initially denied Chopin had become physical with her, but witnesses saw him being verbally aggressive and grabbing her by the front of her shirt’s neck area. Officers checked the victim’s neck and observed red markings consistent with being pulled by the neck.
Chopin was evaluated at Broward Health Coral Springs before being transported to Broward County Main Jail, where he is held without bond.
