Two local organizations dedicated to supporting moms have collaboratively organized a Back to School event strategically timed to coincide with the upcoming tax-free week.
The Back to School Family Fun Day takes place at Coral Square Mall, located at 9469 West Atlantic Boulevard, on Saturday, August 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The event, presented by The Motherhood Village and The SoFlo Moms, aims to uplift and support mothers and families as they prepare their children for a new school year.
All school-aged children, from kindergarten through high school, are invited to the family-friendly event featuring activities tailored to different age groups, including arts and crafts, educational resources, and more from various local, family-friendly vendors.
Founded in 2021 by Nicole Cumberbatch, The Motherhood Village works with local communities to uplift and support mothers to improve their mental well-being through community, education, and connection.
As part of that drive, the Back to School Family Fun event, Cumberbatch tells Coral Springs Talk the goal is to gather together to make kids transition back to school as comfortable as possible, both for them and their moms.
“The mission behind the event is to give families a fun day before school starts, to take advantage of the tax-free week at the mall, and to connect them with local family resources that they may not be aware of,” Cumberbatch said.
“I hope the event impacts as many families as possible. I grew up going to the Coral Square Mall, so it’s an honor to have this event there.”
Passed by the Florida Legislature, the sales tax holiday began on July 24 and extends through Sunday, August 6.
A second exemption period will begin Monday, January 1, 2024, and extend through Sunday, January 14, 2024
Planned as the highlight of the Back to School Family Event, attendees can expect to enjoy a Fashion Showcase aimed at showing off all the newest back-to-school gear.
“The fashion showcase will have mannequins dressed in back-to-school outfits and accessories from stores like Macy’s, JCPenney, Tillys, and Hollister,” Gonzalez-Cumberbatch said.
“Additionally, the event will feature a fashion show with teens and little kids from Dama Modeling School, presenting outfit ideas in person.”
As a grand finale for the event, one lucky winner will take home a grand prize giveaway worth over $300.
According to Cumberbatch, participants have two options to enter the giveaway; They may take part in the school supply scavenger hunt, collecting stamps on their registration passport from participating stores and submitting it at the end, or they can request an entry form at the registration table, fill it out, and enter the giveaway directly.
