A Miami man was arrested for felony trespassing and grand theft after a trailer was stolen from a Coral Springs Walmart construction site.
According to Coral Springs Police Department records, on May 23, a representative from the business and development company Stripe It Rite reported the theft of a 2022 white box Anvil trailer from within the enclosed construction area of the Walmart parking lot located at 10635 West Atlantic Boulevard.
Details of the incident indicate the stolen trailer contained lane striping equipment, paint machines, jackhammers, and other tools valued at approximately $100,000.
The representative provided CSPD with GPS tracking information affixed to the trailer, which tracked it to a residence in Miami located near the 17500 block of Southwest 145th Avenue.
Investigators from the CSPD reviewed surveillance footage from Walmart, which revealed a grey Ford Transit van entering the construction site on the day of the theft. The van was observed removing the trailer and exiting the plaza shortly after.
On May 22, surveillance footage captured a van loitering in the Walmart parking lot. The van’s license plate was traced back to a company called Mechanical Services-Orlando, Inc. The driver was later identified as Orlando Perez Rey, 49, from Miami.
On May 24, GPS logs from Stripe It Rite and DHR Mechanical Services showed the stolen trailer moving. Surveillance later identified it as being attached to the same van seen in the surveillance video being driven by Perez Rey and exiting Perez Rey’s Miami residence.
On May 30, CSPD detectives contacted representatives from DHR Mechanical Services, who confirmed Perez Rey’s employment and unauthorized presence at the construction site. They identified the van in surveillance images and Perez Rey as the driver.
Based on the evidence, including GPS tracking, surveillance footage, and testimonies, CSPD had probable cause to arrest Orlando Perez Rey. He was taken into custody on June 1.
Perez Rey was later released after posting a $20,500 bond.
