A woman faces assault with a deadly weapon charges after a domestic disturbance involving threats with a Taser and knife.
According to the Coral Springs Police Department report, on November 13, officers responded to a residence following reports of a confrontation between family members that included death threats.
Arrest records show a woman, later identified as Cheryl Hyatt, 61, of Coral Springs, became irate when her daughter expressed a desire to leave and live with her father.
Witnesses told officers the situation escalated when Hyatt allegedly retrieved a Taser and a knife, pointing the Taser at her daughter and 90-year-old mother, asking, “Who’s first?”
Hyatt, still armed, reportedly attempted to barricade the front door with a chair, preventing her family members from leaving. The daughter managed to escape through the garage, while her grandmother later removed the barricade to exit through the front door.
Upon arrival on the scene, CSPD recovered a pink Taser and a kitchen knife near Hyatt’s wheelchair inside the residence.
The CSPD report indicated that video evidence was provided by the victim showing Hyatt shouting, “I have a Taser! I have pepper spray! Who’s first?” while coming toward her daughter and mother. The victim reportedly can be heard in the video pleading for someone to call 911.
Police transported Hyatt to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical evaluation before booking her at Broward County Main Jail.
