More details have emerged surrounding a sexual relationship since fired XCEED Head of School Tracy Smith had with a former student.
Smith, 43, of Boynton Beach, who served as the head of the Coral Springs campus of XCEED Preparatory Academy, was arrested in the parking lot of the school on April 17. Only now has a full arrest report been released to the public that reveals what actions led to her being charged with engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.
The case first came to the Coral Springs Police Department’s attention on April 13, when the student (age not provided by police) provided officers with a sworn statement detailing his and Smith’s relationship and how it progressed from that of a son-mother dynamic to something much more sexual in nature.
According to the arrest report, the student told officers that beginning in October of 2022, he and Smith would meet in her office. For months, the student said he would spend all day in the office completing studies and discussing family issues.
The report says the student told officers after weeks of building a relationship that consisted of him and Smith swapping personal issues, there was a specific incident where, for the first time, they locked legs.
The report says the student told police Smith would gradually open her legs more in response to the touch, and the touching progressed over months to Smith performing sexual acts with her hand over his clothes for up to 10 minutes at a time.
The victim told officers Smith would often complain that she did not receive any attention at home, and on one occasion, asked the student to close the door to her office, but he declined.
According to the student, he and Smith would communicate via iMessage and Snapchat, and Smith often would ask him to delete the text messages. The victim told officers on a few occasions, he had sent Smith shirtless “progress” pictures after going to the gym, and she showed him a picture of her in a bathing suit in person but only sent him four pictures in which she was clothed via messages.
The victim told officers the beginning of the end of his and Smith’s relationship was following a comment he made about something that “sucked,” to which Smith replied that “she could do that too.” The victim told officers he understood that to mean that Smith would perform oral sex on him.
In the months before alerting law enforcement to his situation with Smith, the victim told officers his hugs with her became increasingly uncomfortable, featuring long embraces where Smith would rub her thigh on his genitals.
The victim decided to seek help because he began to realize that the relationship had begun to affect his education and stated he felt Smith was no longer there to help him through school but for an intimate relationship that had long ago crossed a student-teacher line.
After completing an investigation into the victim’s claims, Smith was taken into custody in the parking lot of XCEED and transported to the Coral Springs Police Department, where she was processed, then taken to the Broward County Main Jail.
Smith has since been released after posting a $25,000 bond.
