A pair of Coral Springs soccer players recorded a milestone with their first career goal in college.
Anna Mariano, a 2023 graduate from Coral Springs Charter, recorded her first collegiate goal on October 4 for the Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team.
After playing in only one game as a freshman last season, she has already appeared in six games this year and scored the team’s seventh goal in an 8-0 win over Queens College.
The sophomore also played a career-high 25 minutes and recorded two shots on goal. Mariano scored 39 goals in 37 games as a midfielder in high school. Mariano and her team are 6-5-2 this year and reached the NCAA Tournament last year.
Leah Finkelman had her historic moment playing with the University of Pennsylvania. A graduate of North Broward Prep, Finkleman went scoreless in eight games as a freshman at the University of Penn. She has already played in nine games and scored her first goal in her third game via the penalty kick. It also came in the 90th minute, helping her team record a 1-1 tie. Finkelman then recorded her first career assist against Temple University in a 4-0 win.
In high school, Finkelman was one of the top scorers in the state, setting a school record with 34 goals as a senior. She also had 113 goals in her career and 290 points with NBP.
