The Ella Coffee House franchise made its way to Coral Springs not too long ago, so we had a chance to explore the menu and enjoy some high-quality coffee and food.
Open since 2016, they have other locations in Plantation, Davie, and the Hard Rock Stadium. They specialize in Italian-style coffee using a proprietary blend of beans. They also have a unique menu in that there is no menu for food because every dish is created and placed on a display, with all accouterments in colorful detail.
The coffee is aromatic and visually pleasing as it comes on little wooden boards that match the style of the finished wood interior. There were some housemade flavors like rosemary caramel and “hazelnut-ella.” They were very good and not oversweetened.
Everything is made fresh to order. The avocado toast was served on a toasted grain and rye. The avocado smash was citrusy and contrasted with the sweet balsamic glaze and salty feta cheese. A fresh side of arugula with lemon juice was off to the side of the plate.
The brie and fig sandwich was a bit too sweet and unsettled for our taste. It’s not bad at all, but usually, given how powerful brie cheese is, it’s supposed to be the dish’s star. Instead, it was a bit muted and muddled. The sandwiches come with a little jar of hand-picked fruits/veggies with some light dressing. Since the fig and brie sandwich was already sweet, it seemed like an odd choice to include a jar whose main ingredients were grapes and apples.
The Greek salad was very enjoyable because the ingredients seemed of higher quality, and it was noticeable. The feta wedges on top fell a bit flat, but the vinaigrette was light and delicate. Since I wanted to eat something healthy without sacrificing my taste buds, it definitely felt good munching away.
The Caprese sandwich was our favorite. The tomatoes were soaked with flavor, and the caprese and homemade pesto bubbled when the food arrived. The side jar was an interesting mix of pickled veggies, including leeks and red onions. It actually complemented it quite well.
We ended with some banana bread, which was moist and baked that morning. We gave each other knowing looks, nonverbally communicating with nods that this is something to order again next time.
Off in the corner, we noticed a small stage. Apparently, live music starts on Wednesday afternoons, so it might be worth checking out.
I’m happy to report that although there were some minor quibbles, overall, it looks like a great idea to start some mornings or brunches here.
