
Coral Glades Boys Basketball Team. {Athletics}
Four high school basketball teams in Coral Springs competed in the Region Championships after winning the district Championship, while several other teams recorded their first wins in the spring season.
The Coral Springs High School boys basketball team lost in the Regional Semifinals against top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The Raiders came into the game with a record of 26-2 and ranked third in the state, along with a national ranking of 26. The Colts finished the season 18-10 and were led in scoring by Alex Pierre Louis. He eclipsed 1,000 career points this year, while Jahmai Henry was also in double figures.
The Coral Glades boys basketball team finished the season with a loss in the Regional Semifinals against Miami Senior High School. The Jaguars lost 64-53 but completed a historic season with their first 20-win season in school history.
They also qualified for the Big-8 Tournament for the first time, winning their second District Championship and first victory at Regionals. Gavin Reed led the team with 13. 4 points per game, while Kyler Theopile, Donovan Swain, and Andres Demoya were all in double figures.
The Coral Springs Charter girls basketball team lost to Bihsop Verot High School on February 13. The Panthers were seeded fifth and fell 67-49 to finish the season 16-7. CSC previously beat North Broward Prep and Saint Andrew’s School in the District Tournament before losing 67-49. Jayde Riley led them this year in points, followed by Adeyln Fears, Ariana Irizarry, and Cameron Thiele.
The Coral Springs High School girls basketball team lost 78-22 against Nova High School. The Lady Colts Nethania Noel-Juene led the way with eight points, while Janyah Holmes had six and Trinity Dajuste had five. Jenelle Swaby and Nichelle Jean-Louis also scored as the Lady Colts finished the season 15-10 after losing in the District Championship Game.
In lacrosse, the Jaguars and Trojans faced off with the boys from Coral Glades, winning 16-0 in their first game. The Jaguars were beaten 16-3 against NSU University on their first game but improved to 1-1 after only two wins last season. JPT went 5-11 and will play Marjory Stoneman Douglas in their next game on Wednesday, February 27, at 5 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter also began the softball season 2-0 and outscored their opponents 23-1 in wins over Oxbridge Academy and Archbishop McCarthy High School. Addi Brown and Heather Roberston each have driven in four, while Gio Gurgel has knocked in three, and Shelby Stephens and Sophia Bertorelli have two RBIs.
Addi Michel and Thiele also have driven in runs, while Bertorelli, Courtney Wahlbrink, and Tiggy Courney have allowed only one run and have struck out 21. Next, CSC will play at home against Somerset Academy on Monday, February 24, at 6 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter also had their flag football team win their first game, defeating Coconut Creek High School 6-0. Ali Rodriguez threw a touchdown pass while Marcela Certuche finished with seven flags pulled. Next, CSC will play South Broward High School on Monday, February 24 at 4:30 p.m.
