This past week, two high school basketball teams in Coral Springs won a District Championship, and another qualified for Regionals.
The Coral Glades boys basketball team won their second District Championship in three years following two dominating wins. After receiving a bye in the opening round, the Jaguars beat Boca Raton Community High School 77-41 before winning 83-61 in the final against Park Vista Community High School.
Coral Glades improved to 19-7 and will head into Regionals as the third seed. They will be playing Miami Palmetto Senior High School in their opening game on Wednesday, February 12, at 7 p.m. The Panthers went 16-10 this year and won a District Championship. The winner of this game will play either Miami or Park Vista Community High School, while Columbus, Doral Academy, Western, and Cypress Bay High School all qualified.
The Coral Springs Charter girls basketball team also won a District Championship following wins against North Broward Prep and top-seeded Saint Andrew’s School in the final. They are 16-8 this year and will head to Regionals as the fifth seed to face Bishop Verot High School on Thursday, January 13 at 7 p.m. The Vikings are seeded fourth and went 19-7 this year, including winning their District tournament following wins over Clewiston and Gateway Charter.

The Coral Springs High School girls basketball reached the District Final before falling to St. Thomas Aquinas High School 77-34. They previously beat Monarch High School in the opening round before a come-from-behind win against South Plantation High School in the Semifinals. The Lady Colts trailed by 10 in the fourth quarter but returned and won in overtime.
They also qualified for Regionals and will play Nova High School in the Quarterfinals. The Titans are 20-5 this year after beating Cooper City and South Broward High School in the District Tournament. Nova also beat Coral Springs High School 72-17 in their lone meeting this year.
The Coral Springs High School boys basketball team reached the District Final before losing 72-59 against St. Thomas Aquinas High School 72-59. They previously beat Deerfield Beach High School 64-49 and South Plantation High School 68-66 in the semifinals. They qualified for Regionals and are seeded third with a matchup set for Southridge High School on Thursday, February 13, at 6 p.m.
The Coral Springs Charter boys basketball team finished the season with 15 wins, including a 77-45 victory over FAU High School in their first District Tournament game. They lost 84-44 against Calvary Christina Academy, while the J.P. Taravella boys basketball team lost 57-48 against Cypress Bay and went 9-13 this year with seniors Jordan Arriaga and Nico Novoa.
The J.P. Taravella girls basketball team beat West Broward High School 40-35 in their first playoff game but lost 40-35 against West Broward High High School. They finished the season 8-9 and will have Chloe Ledan, Sarah Zoughai, Ke’shell Gilbert, Amber Beck, Dannielle Duncanson, Willyana Jaques, and Brianna Whittaker graduate.
The Coral Glades girls basketball team fell to Boca Raton Community High School 50-21 in the opening round and went 3-9 this year, with their wins coming over Plantation, Stranahan, and Everglades High School. Their lone senior this year is Alina McGuire.
