The basketball postseason is starting as several teams honored their seniors while the bracket for the District Tournament was released.
On Monday, the Coral Springs High School boys basketball team held senior night and won 57-55 over Fort Lauderdale High School. The Colts honored Java Chervin and Alex Pierre Louis before improving to 14-8. They will be seeded third in the District Tournament and play Deerfield Beach High School on Monday, February 3. The Bucks are 10-7 this year and will play either South Plantation or Monarch High School.
The Coral Glades boys basketball team competed their season, going 17-7, and qualified for the Big- 8 Tournament for the first time In school history. They went on to fall 77-59 against Pembroke Pines Charter but are the top seed and will play either Boca Raton or Santaluces High School. In contrast, Park Vista will play either Marjory Stoneman Douglas or Spanish River Community High School.
The Coral Spring Charter boys basketball team is seeded fourth in the District Championship and will play FAU High School in the opening round on Monday, February 3. The Panthers won 56-45 in their only meeting earlier this year, with the winner playing Calvary Christian Academy.
The J.P. Taravella boys basketball team enters the postseason after nine wins this year, seeded third, and will have a bye in the opening round before playing Cypress Bay High School on Monday, February 3. JPT won 46-43 in their first meeting this year.
The Coral Springs High School girls’ basketball team held Senior Night on Monday 58-38, with Camryn Smith leading the way with 18 points. Nethania Noel- Jeune added 14, Trinety Dajuste scored 12, and Jenelle Swamby scored 11. They also honored Camryn Smith and Dajuste before qualifying for the Big-8 Championship but lost 72-16 against Nova High School.
The Lady Colts are seeded second in the District Tournament and will play Monarch High School in the opening round. The Knights have only two wins this year, with the winner of this game set to play either Deerfield Beach or Boyd H. Anderson High School.
The Coral Springs Charter girls basketball team honored their seniors with Ariana Irizarry, Jayde Riley, and Trynitee Botex and beat Saint Andrew’s School 43-66. They then went on to win 62-44 against Coconut Creek High School before losing 68-19 against St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The Panthers are seeded second in the District Tournament and will play North Broward Prep after a bye in the semifinals.
The Coral Glades girls’ basketball team won against Plantation, Stranahan, and Everglades High School before being seeded sixth in the District Tournament. They will play Boca Raton Community High School, which is 6-8 this year. The winner will face Sanatluces High School.
The J.P. Taravella girls’ basketball team is seeded fifth and will play West Broward High School in the opening round on Tuesday, February 4. The Bobcats won by one point in their only regular-season matchup, and the winner will play top-seeded Cypress Bay High School.
