Coral Springs Football Teams Kick Off 2026 Season With Glades Earning Impressive Win

Coral Glades Football faces Miami Edison High School. {David Volz}

High school football kicked off in Coral Springs this week, with two teams competing in the Kickoff Classic and another beginning its regular season.

Coral Glades opened with an impressive performance, defeating Miami Edison High School 42-14. McKendrick Thomas scored three touchdowns and finished with 150 all-purpose yards, while quarterback Channing Chasey threw for two touchdowns.

The Jaguars also made several big plays defensively and on special teams. Jayden Snow recorded a pick-six and returned a blocked punt by Alexander Jobbitt for a touchdown, while Ethan Ortega recovered a fumble for another score. Linebacker Julian Madero led the team with eight tackles.

Coral Glades is coming off a season in which it won six games and reached the postseason. The Jaguars will open the regular season against Blanche Ely High School on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. The Tigers went 3-8 last season after recording eight victories in 2024.

Parkridge Christian High School also competed in the Kickoff Classic, falling 48-7 against Ida Baker High School. The lone touchdown for Parkridge Christian came when Jake Warren connected with Ramon Brayan on a long touchdown pass.

Parkridge Christian will officially begin its regular season against Pompano Beach High School on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. The Golden Tornadoes went 1-9 last season, with their lone victory coming against Marathon High School.

Coral Springs Charter began its regular season against Coral Shores High School in the Sunshine State Athletic Association and held a late lead before allowing a go-ahead touchdown drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Kai Gray threw for touchdown passes to Martin Franco and Stone Rolle while he also ran for one. Dash Waterman made all three extra points as the defense forced four turnovers.

The Panthers are coming off a season in which they won five games and reached the postseason. They will return home to face Pine Crest School on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. The teams also met last season, with Coral Springs Charter earning a 20-13 overtime victory, handing Pine Crest one of its four losses.
