The Coral Glades boys basketball team continued to make history, winning their first-ever game in Regionals on Wednesday against Miami Palmetto Senior High School 56-53.
After winning their second-ever District Championship in the last three years, the Jaguars advanced to the Regional Semifinals following three players finishing in double figures. Ethan Jean Louis led the way with 10, while Ali Atallah and Kyler Theopile had 10.
Gavin Reed added nine, including the game-winning three-pointer, while Donovan Swain, Anthony Valdes, and Andres Demoya combined for 15. The Jaguars trailed by one but got revenge on the Panthers following their loss in Regionals in 2023. They also picked up their 20th win, which set the school record. They also have won three playoff games after making their first-ever appearance in the Big-Eight Championship.
“It means the world to me because my boys work so hard daily, and sometimes it goes unnoticed,” Head Coach Stefan Whittingham said. “Two years ago, Palmetto sent us home in the exact same fashion, so it felt amazing to send them home while making history twice.”
Coral Glades is set to play Miami High School in the Regional Semifinals on Monday, February 17, at 7 p.m. The Stingarees are 21-5 this year and rank 25th in the State. They beat Park Vista Community High School in the Regional Quarterfinals after losing to Christopher Columbus High School in the District Championship Game.
