High School Girls Volleyball Underway in Coral Springs Highlighted By Wins From Glades and CSC

High school volleyball is officially underway, with five local teams in action, including two facing each other on Monday.

Coral Glades dropped the first two sets against Parkridge Christian High School but rallied to win the final three to secure its first victory of the season. The Jaguars won five matches last year and will play again on Monday, Aug. 24, against Somerset Academy at 5 p.m. Parkridge Christian went 7-9 last season and will face Monarch High School on Monday, Aug. 24, at 4:30 p.m.

J.P. Taravella was in action on Tuesday against Miramar High School and earned a straight-set victory, winning 25-8, 25-18 and 25-16 before beating Coconut Creek High School 25-9, 25-13,25-18 on Wednesday. The Trojans won 12 matches a year ago, including a five-set thriller against Monarch High School in the playoffs. They will face Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Thursday, August 20 at 6 p.m.

Coral Springs High School also began its season on Tuesday against Deerfield Beach High School but lost in three sets. The Colts won five matches last year and will play Piper High School in their next match on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 4:30 p.m.

The final local team to debut this week was Coral Springs Charter, which opened its season with a victory over Pembroke Pines Charter 25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 25-19. CSC went 16-9 last year and reached the District Final. The Panthers also advanced to Regionals before suffering a five-set loss to Monsignor Pace High School.

The Panthers will be back in action for two matches on Friday, Aug. 21, against Somerset Academy Canyons and Somerset Academy, beginning at 2 p.m.
