High School sports in Coral Springs ramped up this past week with the start of the football and volleyball season.
The Coral Springs High School football team began their season with a 41-13 loss against Palm Beach Lakes High School. They then fell 33-6 against Nova High School and will play Coral Glades in their next game on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter lost 51-7 to NSU University in its first regular-season game of the year and then fell 45-32 to Pembroke Pines Charter. It is now 0-2 and will play Ramson Everglades High School in its next game on Friday, September 6, at 7 p.m. The Raiders are 1-0 this year, beating Westminster Christian High School 42-28 in their only game.
Coral Glades scored a second-quarter touchdown but were shut out the rest of the game in a 16-7 loss against Cypress Bay High School. They also lost 16-0 against South Plantation High School and will play the Colts after falling to them 20-15 a season ago.
J.P. Taravella features a young team with 15 freshmen. They dropped their first game 40-0 and then fell again to Northeast High School 28-13 l in their second game on Thursday. They will play Pompano Beach High School on Thursday, September 5, at 4 p.m. JPT won the only matchup last year, 27-6, while the Golden Eagles also lost their first game of the 2024 season against Marathon High School.
The volleyball season started with a rivalry match between Coral Springs Charter and Coral Springs High School.
The Panthers won 25-9, 25-20, 25-11 to move to 1-0. Samantha McMillan led the Panthers with 18 kills. Jade Keen added eight, while Allyson Gates had six.
The rest of their team consists of Jaia White, Isabella Nelson, Jade Keen, Olivio Greco, Francesca Schirripa, Kailey Michaelson, Mia Luersen, Julianna Bermudez, Angie Barrios, Brooke Clark, Valery Ortiz, and Kaila White.
CSC also beat Monarch High School 20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19, along with a five-set win over Pembroke Pines Charter in their last match. Their only loss came to Sagemont High School, and they will play again on Tuesday, September 3, at 6:30 p.m. against NSU University.
The CSHS team features Sofia Mateus, Mya Inoa, Ana Cordero, Shanecia Mustafa, Jasmin Caraballo, Tatianna Faison, Rebecca Assena, Stacey Luce, Kaylah Pinkey, Kaylee Belliard, Gabriela Alonso, Tatiana Hodge, Savannah Jones, and Christi Alonso. They got their first win against Dillard while falling to Nova and Deerfield Beach School. They play South P{lactation High School on Tuesday, September 3, at 5:30 p.m.
The Coral Glades volleyball team is 1-3, with a win against Nova High School in five sets. They lost to Everglades, Pompano Beach, and Fort Lauderdale High School in three sets. They will play Cooper City High School in their next match on Tuesday, September 3, at 6 p.m. The Jaguars feature Catalina Lopez, Daniela Zuniga, Ana Buitrago, Aryanna Blanco, Kelsie Reid, Megan Cecil, Paula Ochoa-Anzola, Aaliyah Fuentes, Lindsey Perlmutter, Saniyah Tulloch, Malia Mohammed, Chrystal Carreras, Jessica Fele, Camille Camper,, Kamila Rivas and Cara Miedema.
J.P. Taravella lost 25-12, 25-17, 25-12 against Piper High School. They will play Monarch High School in their next game on Tuesday, September 3, at 6 p.m.
