Coral Springs native and J.P. Taravella graduate Jack Sinclair made his major league debut Friday night, recording the first strikeout of his career against the two-time defending World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers.
A 2017 graduate of J.P. Taravella, Sinclair was called on to pitch the eighth inning at Dodger Stadium. He delivered a 1-2-3 inning, beginning with a strikeout of Max Muncy.
Sinclair threw 16 pitches, getting Alex Freeland to ground out to second base before Dalton Rushing flew out to left field to end the inning.
Sinclair was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He has played baseball since T-ball, working his way through Little League and travel baseball, including the Original Florida Pokers, before eventually reaching the major leagues.
After high school, Sinclair continued his career at the University of Central Florida, where he excelled in 2020. Despite the season being cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sinclair went 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA as a reliever. As a senior, he made 12 starts and finished his college career with 111 strikeouts.
At J.P. Taravella, Sinclair played three seasons on the varsity team. He recorded a save in his only appearance as a sophomore before winning seven games over his final two seasons. He finished his high school career with a 2.36 ERA and 74 strikeouts. Sinclair also contributed at the plate, playing first base and batting .361 with one home run and 17 RBIs in 133 at-bats.
As a professional, Sinclair has appeared in 240 games and owns a 25-18 record with a 3.61 ERA. He was 6-2 this season with Triple-A Reno before earning his call-up, striking out 74 batters in 60.1 innings.
Now, after years of playing baseball from T-ball through the professional ranks, Sinclair has reached the major leagues — and he has his first career strikeout to show for it.
