Improvements may be coming to downtown Coral Springs.
During the September 2 meeting, the commission passed on the final reading of an ordinance to approve the rezoning of about 58 acres of properties within the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) – a local activity center located west of Coral Hills Drive and south of NW 31st Court.
The area will shift from zoning that includes community business, medium-density multifamily residences, and a medical center to a downtown mixed-use zoning district.
Residential units can be built at up to 20 per acre, according to Sayona Khandwalla, spokesperson for Coral Springs.
The goal is to improve the downtown area and sidewalk space, and to support economic development. The CRA has multiple zoning districts that limit what property owners can do with their properties. Rezoning to the downtown mixed-use zoning district allows owners and developers to operate under a single code, according to Khandwalla.
