Parkridge Christian Academy recorded a pair of champions in both volleyball and basketball on February 29.
The Elementary volleyball team defeated Christian Academy 26-24, 25-9 in the Schools Athletic Conference Championship for the first championship in any sport in school history for the girls team.
Amber Winslow led the team to a 6-1 record before the Middle Schools boys basketball team won a thriller 39-38 against Parkway Christian School in the SUAC Championship for the second straight year after going 11-3.
After trailing by 5 with just over a minute, the boys rallied behind a series of turnovers that led to quick scores and free throws. Khalil Manuel knocked down game-tying and game-winning free throws with less than 10 seconds remaining. Parkway attempted a shot to win the game as the clock dwindled, but Jovanni DeFalco blocked it as time expired.
Manuel led the way with 21 points, including four three pointers.. Tron LaFavor scored six, while Haden Walls and Jovanni DeFalco combined for nine points and 17 rebounds. Jeremiah Mann also added seven rebounds and scored, along with Durham Wood.
“I’m incredibly proud of the resiliency this group showed throughout the season,” Head Coach Chris Spencer said. ” They fought from beginning to end to get ready for this point, and it’s sweet to see it pay off.”
