Local Student Named Broward County JROTC Cadet of the Year

A Marjory Stoneman Douglas student was named the Broward County JROTC 2016 Cadet of the Year in a ceremony last Friday.
Cadet Major Kyle Ramos was named at Broward County Public Schools Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center in Fort Lauderdale. Ramos was selected from the top JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps) cadets from each of the district's traditional high schools. With this recognition he received a promotion to Cadet Colonel and will be assigned to the position of Regimental Commander.
Cadets were evaluated on their academic performance, demonstrated leadership, community service and school involvement, as well as their JROTC participation. In addition, the top cadets from six BCPS middle schools were also honored for their achievements.
Also honored during the ceremony were first runner up Cadet Master Sergeant Cristina Gibson of Pompano Beach High School, followed by five distinguished cadets: Cadet Lieutenant Lisandra Gonzalez of Charles W. Flanagan High School; Cadet Lieutenant Commander Fabian Bosneanu of J.P. Taravella High School; Cadet Major Niquiel Fahie of Everglades High School; and Cadet Captain Oscar Lozado of Coral Springs High School.
The cadets were evaluated on their academic performance, demonstrated leadership, community service and school involvement, as well as their JROTC participation. In addition, the top cadets from six BCPS middle schools were also honored for their achievements.
The Junior ROTC partnership between the United States Department of Defense and BCPS is completing its 43rd year, and to date, has involved over 100,000 JROTC Cadets. BCPS has the largest JROTC program in the nation, with a JROTC program in every traditional high school.
Also during the ceremony, Damian Huttenhoff, former BCPS Director of Athletics and Student Activities, was designated as the 41st Honorary Colonel of the Broward County JROTC Regiment.
