Newly appointed Sheriff Gregory Tony has announced that Colonel Sean Zukowsky has joined the Broward Sheriff’s Office and will serve as undersheriff, placing him second in command.
Formerly serving with the Coral Springs Police Department, Col. Zukowsky, a decorated combat U.S. Marine Corps veteran, has more than 20 years of law enforcement and military experience.
Sheriff Tony said he selected Col. Zukowsky for his leadership, management and conflict resolution skills.
“Colonel Zukowsky is a strong leader who will serve the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward County well. I am especially impressed with his management and leadership principles, his high tempo operational experience and his sound ethical values. He is a seasoned administrator who brings forth a wealth of professional command experience. I know his knowledge will be beneficial in carrying out my vision for BSO,” said Sheriff Tony.
Col. Zukowsky has been recognized by senior officers for “providing steady leadership.” As a Marine, he rose through the ranks becoming a Lieutenant Colonel leading an Assault Amphibian Battalion of more than 1,000 Marines as they transitioned from combat to crisis response. Col. Zukowsky successfully negotiated deals with foreign nations on details related to prisoner of war and missing in action missions.
“I am humbled and privileged for this opportunity to come back and serve this community,” said Col. Zukowsky. “Knowing Sheriff Tony’s character and capacity, and after speaking at length with him on his intended course of action, I firmly knew I could get behind his focus on providing strong leadership, improved training and operational excellence to the Sheriff’s Office.”
Prior to joining BSO, Col. Zukowsky was a deputy with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in Greenville, South Carolina, where he worked as a road patrol deputy, warrants deputy, background investigator, recruiter and on-call public information officer.
Before moving to Greenville, Col. Zukowsky served with the Coral Springs Police Department as a road patrol officer and field training officer from 2008 to 2015.
