Rigoberto Fernando Valdes {BSO}
A Coral Springs man was arrested after he was observed exhibiting suspicious and erratic behavior outside several businesses, including a gym and a daycare that serve children on the autism spectrum.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department incident report, officers observed Rigoberto Fernando Valdes, 46, walking southbound from the 1500 block of North University Drive. During that time, Valdes was seen entering or attempting to enter multiple businesses, including Fluent Cannabis Care, The Hook Up, and No Shenanigans Diving.
Valdes was also observed tugging repeatedly on the locked doors of Raw Kickboxing & Fitness, which was closed at the time. Shortly afterward, he arrived at the doors of We Rock the Spectrum Kids’ Gym, a facility designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum.
Officers noted in the report that the gym’s large, untinted windows made it visible from the outside that young children, estimated to be between two and four years old, were inside.
After observing Valdes in front of the business, a CSPD officer exited his vehicle and approached Valdes. The officer asked Valdes if he was “going from business to business” and denied pulling on the locked door more than once.
While speaking with the officer, the gym’s business owner exited the building and stated Valdes had been inside the gym, making her staff and the children uncomfortable. According to Vidra and the employees, Valdes had invited them to a party at a hotel.
One of the front desk employees, a minor, told officers Valdes spoke to her and made her feel uncomfortable. An adult employee also confirmed the interaction and added that Valdes had invited both her and the underage employee to a “party” at a hotel.
As officers spoke to witnesses outside the business who confirmed the events, Valdes interjected and spontaneously admitted to asking the employees if they “wanted to have a party.”
Further investigation revealed that Valdes had also been the subject of a separate police call earlier in the day at BJ’s Restaurant. In that incident, witnesses reported a man matching Valdes’ description – including face tattoos – behaving erratically, speaking to trees, looking into parked cars, and entering and exiting the restaurant.
Based on the officer’s observations and witness statements, Valdes was arrested for loitering or prowling and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
